Is It Time for a Roof Replacement on Your Home?

The roof on your home is designed to protect your home from the weather but sometimes problems arise. Knowing when it’s time to replace your roof can sometimes be confusing. There are many options when it comes to getting a roof replacement and it may be what you need if you notice any of the signs mentioned below.

Having a home means a constant need for home repairs. One component of the home that can last for many years however is the roof of your home. Most roofing materials are designed to last for more than 15 years and have  a warranty that can repair or replace the roof if needed. In fact, some roofing materials are covered by much longer warranties. Some of these warranties are longer than 40 years.

Should You Opt for Roof Repair?

Problems on the roof can lead to a roof leak which can cause damages to the inside of your home. Usually getting a roof repair on your home can eliminate a roof leak but is it the best option when you have a problem on your roof?

When your roof needs roof repairs often it may be a sign that your shingles or roofing is breaking down. As they start to break down and age they start to become much more brittle which makes them easier to break. As they age they also become more susceptible to damages from wind as the seals under the shingles are no longer holding as they once did.

Storm Damage on Your Roof

Just because you have a newer roof doesn’t mean you don’t need roof replacement. Storms and high winds can cause all sorts of damage to a roof. Hailstones are especially problematic for roofs because they can cause widespread damage. High winds are also a problem as they can break away shingles from the roof.

After a storm you can usually take a look at your roof for problems. If you see any missing shingles or other problems you’ll likely need to get a roof inspection done by a professional roofer to determine the extent of damages. After the inspection you can talk with the roofer about what their findings were.

Moss and Algae on The Roof

One unsightly problem that you’ll see on some roof is moss or algae growing. This can especially be a problem if you have lots of trees near your home. There are ways to clean the roof and if you decide to get a roof replacement because of this problem there are roofing shingles that are designed to resist algae and moss growth. That way you won’t need to worry about it on your new roof.

What Can You Do if You Need Roof Replacement?

If your roof is in bad shape and you need a new roof installed there are several options. If you’re on a budget then one option is to get a roof over existing roof. That means a new roof will be placed directly on top of your home’s old roof which can save you a lot of money on the roof replacement project.

Another option is to get financing for the new roof. Many roofing contractors today have financing options that can help you get the roof you want while offering payments that you can afford.

In any case, if you have a problem on your home’s roof getting it taken care of quickly is important. When you delay getting roof repairs or roof replacement on your home it can lead to more damage to the inside of your home.
