Most homeowners don’t pay much attention to their home’s roof. After all, once it’s out of sight, it’s out of mind. However, neglecting your roof can lead to severe problems with the rest of your property and pricey repairs. So, how do you know when it’s time to replace your roof? Keep an eye out for these red flags or have a professional roofing company assess your roof.

    Your Roof Is Old

Most roofs have a lifespan of 20 to 25 years. When a roof is nearing the end of its life, you may notice minor problems such as one or two missing shingles, curling, or dark/dirty patches on your roof. If your roof is older or you see little danger indicators, schedule an inspection as soon as possible to assess how much life it has left.

    Dirty Areas On Your Roof

When granules start to break off shingles, darker patches generally emerge. This indicates that your shingles have aged and should be changed quickly. Dark areas on your roof may also reveal the presence of algae or moss, which should be removed as soon as possible.

    You see Missing Shingles

This might be due to storm damage or because your roof has reached the end of its useful life. When shingles get loose or break off, the region becomes exposed, which frequently results in roof leaks.

You see Signs Of Water Damage Inside Your Home

If you have water seeping into your house or attic, it is likely that your shingle underlayment is insufficient or that your roof’s flashing has deteriorated. Mold and mildew can form due to inadequate roof ventilation, causing health issues and costly repairs. If you see water stains on your ceiling or attic, it is advisable to contact a professional as soon as possible to determine the cause of the problem and resolve it!

You see Granules or Sand In Your Driveway

If your house has gutters, they can help you detect early roof concerns if you know where to look! When roof shingles are broken or have reached the end of their useful life, they begin to lose the granule coating that protects your house. These granules may and will wash into your gutters, as well as your yard or driveway. If you notice these granules, you should contact a specialist right away. When these granules are gone, the capacity of your roof to protect your property is reduced.

    Do You See Any Signs?

If your roof is exhibiting any of these indicators and you believe it may need to be replaced soon, contact a home roof specialist to come out and do a complete examination for you!
